We continue to be grateful for our partners and the ways each one has supported Freedom’s Hope Compassionate Ministries through gifts, financial support, volunteers and, most important their prayers. We are grateful for all the groups and individuals who have donated bedrolls, blankets, sleeping bags, meals, personal items, snacks, masks and their financial investment for those we serve. We could not achieve all that has been done without the devotion of our volunteers, partners and contributors. We eagerly look forward to 2022 as we expand our Community Center space, services, and hours of operation. Our powerful programs, financial stability, growth, and solid spiritual foundation have positioned us well to experience outstanding success in the years to come. Rev. We assisted two of them with housing. Both are employed and doing well. A third participant continues to actively work on her goals aimed at self-sustainability. Hope Academy was provided two times this year with five graduates. One graduated reported the difference in her life has been to “stop and think” which has helped her to make better choices. Another graduate reported the best thing she learned from the classes was “Jesus loves me”. A female participant reported having difficulty with her vision, which was worsening. She is a severe diabetic and our nurse was very concerned. The nurse assisted her with the applications for charitable care through the University of North Carolina Health Care System and made the appointments. The participant was diagnosed with cataracts, had surgery, and her vision has been restored. A male participant was hit by a car and suffered a traumatic brain injury. When he was discharged from the hospital, he returned to the streets and resumed drinking. Because of his overall condition, he was at high risk of additional injury or death. He needed to be safely detoxed with placement in a living facility. Through the resources of the homeless shelter, our congregational nurse, and the medical director for the congregational nurse program, the participant was safely detoxed from alcohol. He was safely placed, and we assisted his family in obtaining disability and long-term options. A female requested to see the nurse. She was assessed and found to have a suspicious lump in her breast. She was referred to Open Door Clinic for further evaluation and treatment. This participant is engaged with our Intensive Restorative Path. She reported that she really wanted to “use drugs” again because of acute anxiety and stress. She contacted her dealer and was told he would not sell her anything, stating, “You are doing so well. Don’t give up now!” She is actively growing in her faith. The highlight of the year was our Christmas party, sponsored by St Mark’s Church. Every participant was invited to submit their Christmas list of two items. Through the generosity of St. Marks, these gifts were purchased, wrapped and placed under the tree.
